Palawan — One of 20 Best Trips of 2011 — National Geographic

At the Mouth of the Underground River, Palawan, Philippines

Palawan was honored to make National Geographic’s list of the 20 Best Trips for 2011. And a warm Philippine welcome to all the visitors who are taking NatGeo’s good advice and visiting this beautiful island! Puerto Princesa, and the rest of the island has many wonderful places to see and things to do.

If you are a foreigner, you should know that for Filipinos, for years Palawan was synonymous with fish. The fresh fish market is a wonderland of creatures from the sea.

Palawan’s most famous attraction is the Underground River.

The Philippines played a prominent role in World War II, so history buffs can get a history fix while visiting Palawan, as well.
